Narcotics Training That you'll never get

If you’re waiting for your agency to teach you how to find narcotics during patrol, there’s something you need to know.

They likely won’t.

It’s not because they don’t want to.

It’s because they aren’t built to.

Most agencies rely on narcotics units to do narcotics stuff. Those folks are good at their jobs — but they are busy.  It’s insane how much they work.

Has your agency offered this type of training before? HIDTA maybe, but your agency?

They’ll almost never teach you a class like Narcotics on Patrol.

While any training would be good, you’d need an instructor experienced in  “interdiction.”  In most metropolitan agencies with thousands of officers, there are likely less that 10 interdiction officers.

That makes odds of any training, let alone good training are…well…bleak.

So, you shouldn’t wait.

Here’s What Experienced Officers Know

If you want to become truly skilled at detecting narcotics, you can’t wait for someone else to hand it to you.

You have to go get it.

Truth be told…it’s the same with most skills and specialties in law enforcement. The best cops in their fields don’t wait for training that isn’t going to happen.

They find the nation’s experts and go to them.

Why You Can’t Afford to Wait

Since the beginning of law enforcement the story has been the same:

  • New officers get basic academy training.

  • They finish Field Training

  • Their learning drastically decreases

  • They get a few in-house classes here and there.

  • Maybe a day or two of outside instruction…maybe

But real skill — the kind that leads to felony cases, major busts, and career opportunities — doesn’t come from a PowerPoint presentation.  It has to be delivered in a way that’s memorable and hands on.

The absolute best classes are taught by unicorns.  They have real world experience, educated in their field, and are top notch instructors.

The Benefits of Getting Ahead

Officers who take the initiative set themselves apart early:

✅ Develop investigative instincts early in their careers.

✅ Build stronger, court-worthy cases.

✅ Get noticed by specialized units and command staff.

✅ Open doors to narcotics, investigative and task force assignments.

✅ Create a reputation as a worker who gets results — not just someone who shows up.

In a profession where skill leads to opportunity, being prepared sets you apart fast.

Just as important as the skill to make solid cases is the drive to do it.

When good supervisors and investigators see cops like that, it reminds them of themselves.

The Choice You Have Now

Imagine pulling over a car and knowing exactly how to ask the right questions.

Knowing what to look for legally, ethically, and professionally.

And building cases that hold up — because you learned how to do it right.

Or,

Imagine stopping a car and having such heightened skills and experience that you know this is a simple traffic offense.
